A NEW TANK SETUP Setting up a new tank is at least half of the fun, and challenge of raising fish and becoming a Fish Tycoon! 1. When I start a new tank, I try not to spend any money so that right off the bat I can save up for the second tank. The second tank increases profits quickly! I stick to crossing either my nine basic fish amongst themselves, or breeding fish that are identical. I only cross Betas, Sharks and Spotanus, and only Twinfin, Greenfin and Silky fins. If I get a Pink fatfish, for example, in a batch of eggs, I either sell it or breed it only with other Pink fatfish. KEEP TRACK OF WHAT YOU BREED, and what survives well and sells for a good price. When I'm starting, I try to breed orange fruitfish (Beta/shark, greenfin silky) or various goldbulbs. (Spotanus/Shark). There are more good money makers if you want to experiment with different combinations. If I stay with the basic fish, I can raise and sell fish without the water research. First I get the second tank, increasing profits even more, and THEN go for the research when I have enough money. It takes both water researches to breed the big money fish, so I concentrate on earning enough money to get the research done. I raise fish, sell them, and buy eggs until I find a really good combination for breeding, and then I concentrate on breeding that one fish while I raise money for the research .... ALSO at the same time I collect the nine basic fish as I go along, and keep those in the main tank. Usually by the time I have all the research done, I also have all or most of the basic fish, and can start doing the FUN breeding! :) . If I don't have all nine fish by the time research is done, I just devote one tank to eggs, and buy four batches at a time. I can very quickly find all of the fish that way. I breed fish in all my tanks, including the sales tank. Only grown fish sell, so babies are safe until nearly mature. If I have a Green Spotanus Magic Fish, which increases the amount of babies produced, I move the babies out of their tank as they are born and keep it for a breeding tank. Disposing of sick fish saves money on medication, but I try to start games without losing ANY fish, so I always medicate. And I never buy the plant of fertility. It helps while setting up a tank, and for earning lots of money, but once you have it it makes breeding harder, as every mom ALWAYS makes two babies. I'd rather just have the Greenfin Spotanus in my breeding tank. It also gives a second baby, but you can take it out when you don't want the extra one. When I'm breeding full tanks for variety, having two babies of each type just slows the process down. Blog ended......... |
| Jan 25 Well, Blogging starting the tank didn't work at all. I keep getting Twinfin Spotanus in the first batch of eggs ... and successive batches, making breeding just tooooooo easy to bother documenting, so I've given up on the blogging idea for setting up a new tank. I will just detail setup instead. Phoeey |

Jan 21 I'm going to keep a record of the full setup of a new tank system. I just started this new one before turning in for the night. So far all I have is a tank ... $300 and 8 eggs. We'll see what's there in the morning! :) |

Jan 22 Okay, morning it is, and quickly here... I have 7 new babies. It's not a good selection for breeding but there IS a Greenfin Spotanus, which is Magic Fish Number One - the magic fish of fertility! :) Having that one in a tank when you are starting is a MAJOR PLUS, because you breed twice as many babies at a time. So, I'm going to stick with the tank a while, despite the fact there are no good breeders in the tanks. The seven I have are two Spotunus .. the green and a Twinfin. Those are the only two I'm comfortable breeding without an aeration system, which I choose not to buy at this time. Instead, I've bought two more sets of eggs. $240 for 8 eggs! Leaving me only $60, but that's enough for meds shich I will probably need soon. It seems someone is always getting sick. Hopefully this new set of eggs will give me a few good breeders. The other fish in my starter set are a spined beta, two fat fish .. a silk and a pink, and two Fruitfish, a Twinfin and an Orange. If I can get another orange Fruitfish in this next batch, I'll be in business! :) When starting a tank, I only cross what I call the true types. That's Beta, Sharks and Spotanus. Everything else is already a cross, and odds are slim for babies living in a new tank. I also only cross true type fins. That's Twinfin, Greenfin and Silky. Of course the only exception to that is if two fish have the same fins.
I would cross a greenfin Fruitfish with a silky Fruitfish
-- thus getting a orange Fruitfish. but I won't cross my Twinfin Fruitfish
with the Orange Fruitfish, because that would give me a speckled fruit
fish, and I'm not sure how it would survive in a brand new tank.
Then again... The only way to learn is by doing.. so here goes, and I'll
let you know what happens! :D The same thing goes for the silkly Fatfish and the Pink Fatfish. They will give me a Hornet Fatfish... I normally wouldn't do it, but just did. :) We'll see how quickly the babies die, if they do. (Again, low health) Well, with a brand new tank there is no choice but to 'wait' for the babies, so I've put the tank on double time, and will let it go for a couple of hours ... just putting food in it once in a while. I've also put the fish who aren't breeding in the sale tank, to make more room for the new babies. I've tried setting my computer clock forward to make things go faster, but I find there is no 'break' to the game when doing that. I could do it forever and never stop. If I go with real time in the starting tank I have time to do other things too. As hubby keeps saying, "There more to life than breeding VIRTUAL FISH". :) .............. 8pm.... Well, that didn't work! I wanted to set up a tank and blog the setup, but this one is going to be toooooo easy! The next bach of eggs gave me another Greenfin Spotanus! That means I can breed those two and sell them for $75 each! There just isn't point to doing anything except BREED BREED BREED! I've bred about 20 of them... sold some but now I don't know if I want to continue with it. In no time I'd have enough money for all the researches and second tank ... breed. That's just TOO EASY! I'm torn between going for that ... or starting over so I can do this startup blog the right way. ......... Dern...... {Fighting with self} Okay........ I'm going to dump that tank. :( It's the perfect setup ... but way too easy. Back to where I was last night ... New Tank, 8 eggs, and wait to see what I get. BYE FISHES
